Remember when you were a kid and you would decide whether a bike fit by if you could basically reach the handlebars and pedals at the same time? Well buying a new road bike and triathlon bike can be a little more complicated these days. Many triathletes will tell you that a good professional bike fit is imperative.
If you are in Miami here are the resources that I know about for bike fitting. Be sure to tell them Amy sent you 🙂 I get nothing but goodwill but that goes a long way.
Mack Cycle is my local bike shop. They offer a body geometry bike fitting when you purchase your bike in their store. They also have a GURU fit bike for comprehensive fittings before or after you purchase a new bike.
Gunter – All 4 Cycling www.a4c-usa.com (305) 239-4444
Gunter offers Retul fittings. This is who fit me before I bought my first Tri bike and then did my full retul fit on that bike. I was very wobbly on the bike when I went in and steady freddy when I came out. I have been very happy with my fitting.
Andreas – UltraBikeX http://www.ubxbikes.com/
Andreas runs a Computrainer Studio just a few doors down from the UltraBikeX retail store on Key Biscayne. He also has a Retul bike fitting setup. Full disclosure I have not had a fitting with Andreas.
Roberio – Fusion Pro Bike Shop http://www.fusionprobikeshop.com
Roberio used to work at Mack Cycle. He did the body geometry fitting that came with the purchase of my Shiv. He is knowledgeable about biomechanics and bicycles.
Dennis Phipps –
Dennis is a coach with Full Circle coaching. He is the only bike fitter who I found during my research who was not affiliated with a bike store. He doesn’t have an accreditation for a method of fitting but is a knowledgeable cyclist and has many favorable reviews. There is a possible conflict when you go to a bike store for a fitting. They have a pretty big motivation to fit you to a bike that they are selling. To avoid that you can look for a bike fitter who is not affiliated with a bike store. Full disclosure – I have not personally done a bike fit with Dennis. To reach Dennis you can visit the Full Circle Coaching website or if you want to contact me I’ll give you his personal contact information.
These are the resources that I know of in Miami. My friend Mickey did tell me that there are bike good bike fitters at City Bikes (Guido) and Big Wheel Bicycle (Robert). She’s more of a bike expert than I am but the reason I don’t go to those stores is that they are a little North for my definition of “Miami” and I didn’t include them only because I don’t have any actual direct experience with them.
This is a resource page and I’m sure that there are many more bike fit resources in Miami. Please let me know what I’ve missed with a comment below.
